We love shopping vegetables on the market for our recipes, for example the tomatoes taste much more like tomatoes than the ones from the supermarket. The market is not only popular among the inhabitants of Groningen but also tourists and people from the surrounding areas like it’s “gezellig” (cosy) and warm atmosphere. Particularly, the self-made bread and delicacies like little pastries appeal to the visitors.
It can be said that on the Grote Markt one can find clothes and food on the Vismarkt. The busiest but also nicest market days are Friday and Saturday. Tuesdays are also full market days, while Wednesdays and Thursdays is usually much less going on.
However, the market is a rich source of the finest ingredients, for the best dishes: fresh, sometimes local, aromatic and cheap.
Try out some grocery shopping on the market and if you like, share your experiences with us!!
